India and Pakistan tensions over Kashmir
Tensions have been ratcheting up between India and Pakistan over the disputed Kashmir region and there have been cross border air strikes, with one Indian pilot being captured by the Pakistani military. I've been watching this closely since both countries are nuclear powers and they border both China and Afghanistan, so if things really get out of hand between the two countries then this could become a regional war....
A good article to see what's going on is online at:

Just in case I've ordered more dried beans and more mylar bags to store them. Will be getting more buckets and some bags of rice too. Not sure where I'll put all this, but I'd rather have too much food if the ball goes up rather than too little.

Looks like it's starting to heat up again after a lull...

Still just at a simmer, but things can escalate quickly over disputed territories. Sigh.

Re: India and Pakistan tensions over Kashmir
And India is doing their best to ratchet up tensions again. Al-Jazeera has a decent article with all the latest moves from both sides:

Lots more at link above.

The Indian government has revoked the special status of Indian-administered Kashmir in its constitution, the most far-reaching political move on the disputed region in nearly seven decades.
A presidential decree issued on Monday revoked Article 370 of India's constitution that guaranteed special rights to the Muslim-majority state, including the right to its own constitution and autonomy to make laws on all matters, except defence, communications and foreign affairs.
In the lead-up to the move, India sent thousands of additional troops to the disputed region, imposing a crippling curfew, shutting down telecommunications and internet, and arresting political leaders.
The move has worsened the already-heightened tensions with neighbouring Pakistan, which said it will downgrade its diplomatic relations with India.
Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in full but rule it in part. The nuclear-armed neighbours have fought two of their three wars over the disputed territory.

It's just a matter of time before one of them makes a miscalculation or misjudges the situation and they end up in full scale war.

Exactly.
And because they are nuclear powers, all out war will be nasty and risks drawing in neighboring countries which include China....

Re: India and Pakistan tensions over Kashmir
And the risk of any conflict escalating just took a giant leap:

Pakistan, China sign agreement to boost bilateral defence cooperation
The agreement to enhance bilateral defence cooperation was signed during Vice Chairman Central Military Commission (CMC) General Xu Qiliang’s visit to Pakistan’s army headquarters in Rawalpindi with a high level delegation.

Depressing article on potential ramifications of even a limited nuclear war between India and Pakistan.

https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/10/misery-of-a-nuclear-war-between-india-and-pakistan-would-be-global/
"Should a war between India and Pakistan ever occur, as assumed here," the researchers write, "these countries alone could suffer 50 to 125 million fatalities, a regional catastrophe. In addition, severe short-term climate perturbations, with temperatures declining to values not seen on Earth since the middle of the last Ice Age, would be triggered by smoke from burning cities, a global disaster threatening food production worldwide and mass starvation, as well as severe disruption to natural ecosystems."
The cooling would slow the hydrologic cycle and decrease rainfall by 15% to 30% percent globally, with impacts varying in different regions. In India and central China, for example, precipitation would drop to nearly zero. The Northeastern and Midwestern United States would see a decline of 50%.
The temperature, precipitation, and sunlight change would obviously impact photosynthesis on land and in the ocean. The model estimated a 15% to 30% drop in growth on land—known as Net Primary Productivity—and a 5% to 15% drop in the ocean.
