The US plans to force passengers to change routes, and potentially redirect entire flights, to make sure they get screened for the Wuhan virus
https://www.businessinsider.com/us-plans-redirect-plane-passengers-screened-for-wuhan-coronavirus-2020-1
The US is making plans to force passengers from Wuhan, China, to change flights — and even reroute flights entirely if necessary — to ensure they get screened for the coronavirus spreading throughout the Chinese city.
(SNIP) ... In a media briefing following the announcement of the US case, Dr. Martin Cetron, the director for the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine at the Centers for Disease Control, outlined a comprehensive "funneling approach" to make sure every traveler from Wuhan makes it to one of five US airports that can screen them.

Re: Discussion & News-USA -- (NOT CASES)-February 2020
I am not an expert on Embassies vs Consulates, but here is what I found.
American Evacuations:
https://www.thedailystar.net/southeast-asia/news/us-evacuate-citizens-wuhan-china-1858906

American Evacuations:
https://www.thedailystar.net/southeast-asia/news/us-evacuate-citizens-wuhan-china-1858906
AMERICAN citizens and diplomats living in coronavirus ground zero Wuhan are to be evacuated on a special charter flight, it has been reported.
Roughly 1,000 US citizens are thought to be in Wuhan and the consulate there is reaching out to the ones it knows to offer them a seat on the plane.
https://fox40.com/2020/01/25/us-arranges-charter-flight-to-evacuate-diplomats-from-china/
The Wall Street Journal first reported the planned evacuation.
According to the Journal, the US consulate in Wuhan is reaching out to the Americans it is aware of in the country to offer them a spot on the flight.
The flight, which seats about 230 people, will include diplomats from the US consulate in Wuhan, as well as Americans and their families, the Journal reported. The person told the newspaper that any available seats might be offered to non-US citizens and diplomats of other nations.
The flight will have medical personnel aboard to treat anyone with the virus and make sure it is contained, according to the Journal.
Passengers will be asked to foot the bill for the flight, which is expected to cost much more than a commercial flight from China to the US, the Journal reported.
The newspaper reported that the United States also plans to temporarily close its consulate in Wuhan.
It is unknown where the plane plans to fly to in the US, the Journal noted.
Roughly 1,000 American citizens are believed to be in Wuhan, according to the Journal.
On Thursday, the US State Department ordered non-emergency personnel and their families to depart the Hubei Province of China, of which Wuhan is the provincial capital, due to the coronavirus.

This.
This is what will make containing the virus extremely difficult.
The virus will be spreading in places and getting established before we realize it's even there.

I think it is a very necessary thing....
I am just a coffee drinking post reading person with no special schooling, but I do know that China is lying thru their teeth I just feel it ... They are on You-Tube asking for help with donations when is the last time that happened ???
The only reason they haven't declared an emergency here is because of the panic it might start.
I am not an alarmist or doomsayer, but i'm telling you if we wait until its got a foot hold here we are screwed..
Something else they are flying the people into SF from China why there ??? Are they wanting to clean up their homeless problem ??? I know that sounds harsh but lets face our government is run by pretty harsh people...
I didn't mean to high-jack this thread or go on a rant.... Now back to my coffee

... Right now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a test that works by detecting parts of the virus’ genome in the blood. CDC is working with the Food and Drug Administration to make this type of test more widely available to public health labs throughout the U.S. The agencies are working to advance the test under an authorization for emergency use. This is a regulatory designation that accelerates the normal FDA clearance process during public health emergencies.
The CDC test is fast. It can diagnose a sample in a few hours once a blood specimen reaches a designated lab. The test is likely to be given primarily to state and local public health laboratories.

Well, first we need to understand that the MSM are just regurgitating what they heard. They probably don't understand any of this. Frankly, I think the same thing applies to the CDC spokespersons. They just count on the science guys to tell them what to say, and then out of ignorance and political posturing, they edit and massage texts that they do not know the meaning of.As said above "14 day incubation period" 300 or so people arrived from china in californicate last week.
Of course, the ABC article should have said they do not have any evidence that the virus is spreading in the US.

Remember I designed that for apartment dwellers to dispose of waste. It morphed into a poop catapult. I built one and tested it when we had that Gettogether a few yrs ago. Worked fine. We can fling poop 40 yards.

Re: Discussion & News-USA -- (NOT CASES)-February 2020
As we all know masks are a waste of time for several reasons. First is people do no wear them properly. Second, people take them off in crowded, probably infected area to eat or drink. Third, the masks worn do not protect against viruses but were made to use for dust and other large particle debris.
The biggest factor is people assume they are safer wearing the masks so go places and do things they should not be doing and increase their exposure.
It is similar to people thinking if they have a condom in their back pocket it insures safe sex.

Stephanie Soucheray | News Reporter | CIDRAP News
| Jan 28, 2020
The top US public health officials today said the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak that began in Wuhan, China, is not a threat to the average American citizen.
"Americans should know this is a potentially very serious public health threat, but Americans should not worry for their own safety," said Alex Azar, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Azar was joined by Robert Redfield, MD, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Nancy Messonnier, MD, director of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease, and Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health.
Azar began and ended the press conference by imploring the Chinese government to accept the US's offer to send experts from the CDC to aid in the response efforts.
"We are urging China, more cooperation and transparency are the most effective options you can take for an effective response," Azar said. Azar said the United States first offered assistance on Jan 6, and most recently reiterated the offer yesterday.
During the press conference, Azar was alerted to the news that China had agreed to allow a team of international experts led by the World Health Organization to come to China to work on the virus, which he welcomed.
No ongoing spread among US cases
All officials at the press conference offered assurances about the US response to the five confirmed 2019-nCoV cases identified in Washington state, Illinois, Arizona, and California. So far, none of the cases have resulted in secondary transmission, they said, and all patients have cooperated with the CDC in gathering as much information as possible about the illness.
"We have no evidence of human-to-human transmission in the United States," said Messonnier. "All the cases have been directly transmitted from China."
Redfield said the CDC decided to increase surveillance efforts in US airports. Now 20—up from 5—of the nation's largest and busiest airports will practice enhanced screening of passengers traveling from China. Late yesterday the CDC also issued a level 3 travel advisory, suggesting US citizens avoid all nonessential travel to anywhere in China.
Redfield and Messonnier said an important part of the enhanced screening will be educating passengers to look for possible symptoms of 2019-nCoV, as patients may be asymptomatic at the time of travel. The experts urged both travelers and their physicians to take precautions if an upper respiratory illness and fever follow a recent trip to China.
Throughout the press conference, the officials referenced past experience in Asia with coronavirus diseases SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) and MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome), and avian flu, suggesting the US has the tools to help combat the new coronavirus outbreak.
Symptomatic transmission as likely driver
Fauci explained that China was currently using both the antiviral remdesivir and the antiretroviral drug Kaletra (lopinavir and ritonavir) on a compassionate basis on some nCoV patients. Both treatments, used against Ebola and HIV, respectively, are unproven against the novel coronavirus.
Fauci said monoclonal antibody–based therapies will be the next step in developing a possible treatment for the virus, as will a phase 1 clinical trial of a potential vaccine.
He also addressed concerns about whether the virus could be easily spread by asymptomatic carriers. "The driver of respiratory outbreaks is symptomatic people, not asymptomatic carriers," said Fauci.
FDA launches nCoV site
In related news, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced yesterday it was taking key actions to develop nCoV countermeasures.
The FDA also launched a landing page, or website, for 2019-nCoV information.
"We are committed to keeping the American people informed as we prepare and respond to emerging public health threats, including the novel coronavirus," said FDA Deputy Commissioner of Policy, Legislation, and International Affairs Anna Abram, in a press release. "The agency is committed to ensuring safe and effective medical countermeasures are available as quickly as possible to protect public health."
The FDA said the first step will be developing diagnostic tests that will quickly identify the coronavirus. Such tests would likely be able to benefit from the FDA's Emergency Use Authorization pathway, and developers are urged to follow the links and guidelines provided by the FDA.

It is.
But, better late than never. The more people we keep out the better. The slower it will spread here.

That's nothing OAR, they are keeping those people for only 3 days and it's only voluntary if they want to stay. What the H_LL?
That doctor on FOX news (Siegel I think), says the U.S. needs to keep their eye more on the flu that has killed over 8,000 so far in the U.S. instead of this chinese virus.

You are missing the point. I was referring to the 90 planes that have been landing every day from china in California airports. The california health dept says they have things well in hand and no cases so far. Then go on to say that they do not have any test kits for this. Ding, Ding Ding. All this talk about the one plane ignoring the daily 90 ones.

Re: Discussion & News-USA -- (NOT CASES)-February 2020
The article is a mix of "not really news" and outright Leftist Propaganda. Found at the bottom of the page:
Those of us on the Right have been pointing out, for years now, that illegals and asylum seekers crossing the border are bringing diseases we have thought were eradicated from the US for decades. The response from the Left was to ridicule us.
Now they point out that the detention centers are breeding grounds (well, duh). The propaganda angle is the disinformation paragraph:
What will REALLY be news is when this new Corrona Virus begins to spread in the refugee concentration zone, just south of the border.

That last plane that landed in Kilifornia and the people were to voluntary stay on a military base for observation for 3 days and than set home for the rest of their 14 days. Well, FOX news just reported that one crackpot tried to escape but was caught.
Now the crackpot has to stay there for 14 days. I guess that's what makes the world go 'round, a bunch of crackpots.
