Coronavirus: Chinese health experts warn patients can get reinfected

Medical experts on Friday warned that patients who had recovered from the virus were still at risk of being infected again, and said people should avoid any mass gathering, even dancing in public parks and squares – a popular activity for exercise in China.

Zhan Qingyuan, head of infectious diseases at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said in a press briefing on Friday that people who had already had the virus would have developed antibodies but should remain on alert so they did not get ill again.

“The antibodies may not remain for a long time, so there is still a risk that these recovered patients will be infected again,” Zhan said. “They should continue to keep themselves protected.”

Yep, that is what they are saying.
From the link above:
Zhan Qingyuan, head of infectious diseases at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said in a press briefing on Friday that people who had already had the virus would have developed antibodies but should remain on alert so they did not get ill again.
“The antibodies may not remain for a long time, so there is still a risk that these recovered patients will be infected again,” Zhan said. “They should continue to keep themselves protected.”
What they are not saying, because they don't know, is how long those antibodies remain active. They don't know if the answer is weeks, or years. They do know the antibodies wear off, and then the patient can be reinfected.

Whistleblower doctors say coronavirus reinfection even deadlier
https://nypost.com/2020/02/19/whistleblower-doctors-say-coronavirus-reinfection-even-deadlier/

Chinese doctors sounding the alarm on the coronavirus say the illness could be even deadlier for patients who catch it again, according to a report.

The whistleblowing physicians working to fight the virus in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, revealed that medically cleared patients have been getting reinfected, the Taiwan News reported.

“It’s highly possible to get infected a second time,” one of the doctors, who declined to be identified, told the outlet. ---CONTINUED---

HatTip2 Hat Tip to John West's Daily Big Threat Blog:

Coronavirus Reappearing Weeks Later In Discharged Patients
https://www.johnwestbooks.com/world-wide-threats

An alarming number of coronavirus patients in China and around the world are testing positive after 'recovering' and being discharged from the hospital - with the disease reappearing weeks later in some cases, according to Reuters.

On Wednesday, Japan's Osaka prefectural government revealed that a female tour-bus guide had tested positive for coronavirus for a second time - which comes on the heels of Chinese reports that discharged patients throughout the country were testing positive after their release from the hospital.

That said, China's National Health Commission said on Friday that reinfected patients were not transmitting the disease to others. The two running theories is that COVID-19 is "biphasic" and lies dormant before reappearing, or that patients are not building sufficient antibodies to fight a new infection.

Experts say there are several ways discharged patients could fall ill with the virus again. Convalescing patients might not build up enough antibodies to develop immunity to SARS-CoV-2, and are being infected again. The virus also could be “biphasic”, meaning it lies dormant before creating new symptoms. ---CONTINUED---

Fauci said he's 'willing to bet anything' that people who recover from the new coronavirus are 'really protected from reinfection'
https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-fauci-those-who-recover-will-be-immune-2020-3?op=1

(SNIP) ... Fauci, who has often appeared at odds with the White House's more positive messaging around the pandemic, told Noah that while experts can't be 100% sure yet, he feels "really confident" that recovered coronavirus patients will have immunity, adding that he'd be "willing to bet anything that people who recover are really protected against re-infection." ---CONTINUED---
