Earthquake Proof Your House-Tips
Earthquake Preparedness Guide
https://www.earthquakecountry.org/sevensteps/
The Earthquake Country Alliance has worked with experts in earthquake science, preparedness, and mitigation to develop this step-by-step guide for staying safe before, during, and after an earthquake.
Start with the simple tips within each step and then build on your accomplishments. For example, in Step 1 you can move heavy, unsecured objects from top shelves onto lower ones. This will only take minutes to complete! A simple action in Step 4 is to call your agent to learn about earthquake insurance options. To practice how to be safe during earthquakes (Step 5) you can register to participate in Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills.
The Seven Steps are also featured within Staying Safe Where the Earth Shakes booklets, available in English, Spanish, and Chinese (statewide) and 10 regional versions.

Earthquake-Proof Your Shelves
https://housetipster.com/housetips/795
Although you might think earthquakes are only a concern for people living in California and Alaska, anyone living west of the Rocky Mountains and even in parts of the East Coast can experience an earthquake. Most homes and buildings constructed in areas with frequent earthquakes are built to withstand some minor shaking, but the contents inside your house are another matter.
Property damage can be extensive when an earthquake hits, especially for items kept at high levels that are susceptible to falling and breaking. There’s little you can do to keep your home from shaking, but there are measures you can take to prevent the treasures you keep on the shelves from being destroyed. ---CONTINUED---

How to Attach an Earthquake Strap to a Bookcase and Wall
https://homeguides.sfgate.com/attach-earthquake-strap-bookcase-wall-27104.html
Earthquake straps are brackets that attach bookcases to walls and keep them from tipping or rocking when heavy books or items are stored on them. These metal or plastic straps also ensure that bookcases are securely anchored and will not fall over during an earthquake, which can damage furniture, ruin books and possibly even damage the floor. By installing earthquake straps, you are taking steps to make your home safe during an earthquake and prevent the physical and emotional damage that such a disaster can cause. ---CONTINUED---

Secure Free-Standing Bookshelves to the Wall
https://hilo.hawaii.edu/natural-hazards/earthquakes/bookshelves.php
If your bookshelves are free-standing, they could easily fall over during a large earthquake, injuring anyone who happened to be adjacent, especially a small child. Don't take that chance! Inexpensive metal L-shaped brackets are available at your local hardware store, and they're easy to install. One side attaches to the bookshelves, and the other side attaches to a stud in your wall. ---CONTINUED---

Protect Your Collectibles
Most people tend to display their treasured collectibles and other sentimental items on shelves and mantelpieces around the home.
