The outbreak of the corona virus from China has meanwhile had a worldwide impact. The focus of the diseases continues to be in China, but numerous cases have now occurred in many countries around the world, including Germany and other EU countries. The Robert Koch Institute continues to assess the risk to the health of the population in Germany from the new respiratory disease as low.

At present, 16 people in Germany are infected with the virus, all of whom have been isolated and are being treated. The German returnees who were flown out of Hubei are still looked after in central accommodation in Germersheim and Berlin Köpenick.

Around 30 German nationals who were on the passenger ship " MS Westerdam" in Cambodia landed at Amsterdam Airport in the Netherlands on Friday morning. As a precaution, the people are housed in quarantine at home. The responsible health authorities in Germany have been informed accordingly and will take care of further care.

Another 15 Germans landed at Stuttgart Airport on Friday. They had stayed in the Chinese province of Hubei and the city of Wuhan and are housed in a hotel in Kirchheim unter Teck as a precaution. Medical and psychological care is provided by the German Red Cross in coordination with the Baden-Württemberg State Health Office and the Esslingen District Health Office.

Current situation (21.02.2020)

A total of 16 laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 are known in Germany . Most people are already healthy and have been discharged from the clinic. The other patients are also on the mend.

As of March 2, 2020 (data status 3:00 p.m.), cases from 49 counties in 10 federal states were reported. The cases are between 2 and 69 years old (median 36.5 years, mean 37 years). Gender is known in 148 cases, of which 84 (57%) are male, 64 (43%) female. For 146 cases (93%) it is known that they either had contact with a confirmed case or were in a risk area or area with an increased number of cases. The Heinsberg district is 91 times known, 19 times Italy, 7 times Iran and 2 times China. In other cases, investigations are still ongoing.

53,340 Germans had tested positive for the coronavirus as of March 28, with 397 deaths. That gives a death rate of 0.74%. Spain's rate is 7.6% and Italy's is 10.2%.
