Turn Your Homemade Battery Packs into a Solar Generator

A couple of days ago I showed how to make a simple 12 volt battery pack, Homemade Battery Packs Are Inexpensive and Easy to Make (See: http://preparednessadvice.com/electronics/homemade-battery-packs-are-inexpensive-and-easy-to-make/ . I am showing how simple it is to charge the battery packs with solar power. This is the same thing that you pay a lot of money for if you purchase a commercial solar generator. I use these packs for running lights, charging batteries, and running my ham radios. Their uses are only limited by your imagination. ---CONTINUED---

Re: Solar Generators
I looked into solar generators many years ago. Too pricey for me and many others.
I, as well as anybody else, can build their own at half the price and it's easy to add to your build.
I started out with one 165 watt solar panel, one 1000 watt inverter and 2 AGM sealed batteries. I've grown a bit since and even my garage can now run on solar.
My advice is to build your own solar generator, start out small, start buying the items one paycheck at a time and add as you go.
Even one deep cell battery, one 100 watt solar panel and one 750 watt inverter will run your lights and charge your electronics, all for less then $300.00.

Homemade Portable Solar Generator

I had been thinking of constructing a portable solar generator for some time. I remember seeing a news story on a local company that was marketing a “new” product.
(SNIP) ... So after contemplating for a while and having gone the “harbor freight” course, I started gathering my items. First I did some research on solar. And the internet is full of information… ---CONTINUED---

Re: Solar Generators
Another video on how to build a portable solar generator.
I built one of these for the one daughter, only difference is it's in a kids wagon and has two marine deep cell batteries. Each battery is 110 amps for a total of 220 amps of power, along with one 200 watt solar panel and a 2000 watt, modified sine wave inverter.

Re: Solar Generators
Husband didn't built a generator, but he did put together a small solar system. We have 4 solar panels on the south side of our house on a stand. He can run the radio, the computers and modem, the lights, and a few other small appliances. He may expand later, but right now, he wanted to be able to communicate, should the need arise.

Re: Solar Generators
Today, I finished up a diy solar portable generator. It will produce 2400 watt hours of power. I looked at what these cost and the prices are outrageous, anywhere from 1500.00 to 2500.00.
I watched hours and hours of youtube videos on how to make one and even went back to some of them while I was doing the wiring of the switches, lights, etc..
I built mine for around 1000.00, only because I used 2, 100 amp hour, lithium iron phosphate batteries, they were 700.00. I used a dewalt 2.0 large tool box with a collapsing handle and have a 1500/2500 watt pure sine wave power inverter.
Before I built it, I hooked up the lithium batteries up in the house to see if they would run the refrigerator overnight when there was no sun to charge them. The frig ran with no problem and I still had 100 amp hours left when the sun hit my solar panels.
Here's a picture of one that looks almost identical to mine.

Re: Solar Generators
A video on a simple build for a portable solar generator.
The folding solar panel he uses (13 watt) is way too small for the 100 amp battery. Also, he shows the cable connection for the solar panel as a normal solar panel connection, most solar panels have a MC4 (male/female) connection.
So here's an easy way to build a small solar generator to charge your items and run your lights:
