Pandemics-We're NOT Ready!
NOTE: Those of us, who have been following 'pandemic prepping' for any significant amount of time could have told you this, without this WHO report.
Hat Tip to John West, over at his Daily Big Threats blog:

In its first annual report, an independent board established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank to keep its finger on the pulse of the world's outbreak and emergency readiness said the world isn't prepared to respond to a pandemic and that proactive efforts are needed to detect and control potential outbreaks.

Re: Pandemics-We're NOT Ready!
For those of us who have been following pandemic news, We haven't read about concerns much, in recent years. All of a sudden it seems to be news. Here's MORE concern about global pandemic potential:
The World Knows an Apocalyptic Pandemic Is Coming

The World Knows an Apocalyptic Pandemic Is Coming

A new independent report compiled at the request of the United Nations secretary-general warns that there is a “very real threat” of a pandemic sweeping the planet, killing up to 80 million people. A deadly pathogen, spread airborne around the world, the report says, could wipe out almost 5 percent of the global economy. And we’re not ready.
The ominous analysis was compiled by an independent panel, the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB), which was assembled last year in response to a request from the office of the U.N. secretary-general, and convened jointly by the World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO).

Why We Are So Ill-Prepared for A Possible Pandemic Like Coronavirus

(SNIP) ... The problem is that we don’t prepare to defend against infectious diseases the way we do other threats to national security. Would we consider going to war and then ordering aircraft carriers or other weapon systems for the fight? Yet that is how we often deal with vaccines and drug treatments for diseases of epidemic potential. We are woefully underprepared because of a lack of investment and public will. If we are serious about protecting ourselves, governments of the world must make long-term, proactive investments in pharmaceutical agents, medical equipment, supplies and basic research. ---CONTINUED---

We're Not Ready for the Next Pandemic
https://gizmodo.com/were-not-ready-for-the-next-pandemic-1839169413
If the seeds of a pandemic illness were planted tomorrow, how would the world fare? Well, according to a simulation carried out on Friday by Johns Hopkins University, the answer is: terribly.
At a hotel near New York City’s Central Park, the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security hosted a pandemic exercise dubbed Event 201. It enlisted 15 public health experts and leaders from governments and industries to try to figure out the best course of action if a horrific pandemic were to tear its way across the globe. The simulation came stocked with expert briefings and news updates from the fictional GNN, complete with talking head segments. ---CONTINUED---

Are we prepared? Protecting the U.S. from global pandemics

Statement before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

(SNIP) ... Among many components of preparedness, we’re dependent on the robustness of our 3,000 local health jurisdictions; the technology to rapidly deploy point of care diagnostics and develop safe and effective therapeutics and vaccines; local surveillance; federal tools to track outbreaks and contain spread; collaboration with international health partners; and sound leadership.
First and foremost, we must observe the human tragedy, and take steps to mitigate human suffering. While we don’t fully understand the spread and severity of this virus, it has already caused a lot of death and suffering, and the full scope of its impact is far from finished.
Today I want to talk about another aspect of risk and response – our global supply chain for key healthcare products, and how it can become stretched in times of public health emergency. ---CONTINUED---

I did various searches for information about the US restocking its Strategic National Stockpile, after Covid-19 and got nowhere.
I suspect we are not ready for another pandemic.

Re: Pandemics-We're NOT Ready!
I did another search for information on the current status of the SNS, and again, found nothing. It doesn't help that, on the one hand, a lot of it is secret, and on the other hand, since the pandemic is "over" (except for the profiteering and pandering) no one seems to care.TRex2 wrote:I did various searches for information about the US restocking its Strategic National Stockpile, after Covid-19 and got nowhere.

The wikipedia article on the subject gives a little background, but mostly shills for Democrats and blames Trump for all of the failures.
It Will Be Up To Us, As Individuals, To Prepare.
Found some historical articles of interest:

Along the lines of preparing for the next pandemic, it is good to have accurate information on the usefulness (and limitations) of respiratory filters (masks).

Hopefully, I can do a synopsis of usefulness and limitations of masks, later. Until then, the article should cover most of it.
https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/03/cochrane-statement-on.html
Cochrane Statement On Misinterpretations Of Their Mask Study
Although there is ample evidence that the consistent and proper wearing of a good quality (preferably N95) face mask or respirator can dramatically reduce your risk of contracting a respiratory virus (like COVID, Flu, etc.), those who despise wearing masks - or wish to politicize them - have latched onto a Cocharne Study which they claim, proved that mask wearing was worthless.
Exactly how people interpreted that study as a solid repudiation of face masks is difficult to answer. The authors clearly stated:
