Five (05) new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) were confirmed Wednesday evening in Algeria, bringing to 17 the number of people infected with the virus in the country, announced the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital reform.

These new cases "were registered in the same family to reach a total of seventeen (17) confirmed cases," said the ministry in a statement, adding that "the epidemiological investigation is continuing to find and identify all the people who were in contact with the Algerian national and his daughter, both living in France ”.

As a reminder, the first two people, a 53-year-old woman and her 24-year-old daughter, healthy carriers were confirmed positive for coronavirus last Sunday by the National Reference Laboratory of the Pasteur Institute of Algeria.

The surveillance and alert system set up and reinforced regularly to respond to the evolution of the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus has made it possible to trace the journey of an 83-year-old Algerian and his daughter residing in France having stayed in Algeria from February 14 to 21, 2020 in their family in Blida and who were confirmed positive for the coronavirus after their return to France, on February 21, 2020.

The Ministry of Health says that the monitoring and alert system in place "remains in force and the mobilization of health teams remains at its highest level," the statement said.
