Shut Downs. What's closing?
CDC recommends no events of more than 50 people for next eight weeks

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday called for the cancellation of in-person events of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks to try to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The agency issued new guidance as governors across the country directed bars and restaurants to close down with the exception of carryout or delivery business. Arizona, Ohio and other states have shuttered schools for weeks to try to limit transmission of the virus.
"Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing," the CDC said. "When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual." ---CONTINUED---

Dr. Anthony Fauci urges 'national shutdown' as coronavirus spreads
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/mar/15/anthony-fauci-urges-coronavirus-national-shutdown/
Dr. Antony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, urged Americans to shut down more aggressively as the coronavirus spreads.
On MSNBC’s “Meet the Press” Mr. Fauci endorsed a 14-day “national shutdown” to help slow down the virus. He explained that he has brought it up with the administration, which is generally open to his ideas.
“I think Americans should be prepared that they are going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing,” he said. ---CONTINUED---

US politicians in major cities are calling for bars and restaurants to close ahead of St. Patrick's holiday as partygoers ignore social distancing despite coronavirus spread
https://www.businessinsider.com/bars-and-restaurants-closing-due-to-coronavirus-st-patricks-day-2020-3?op=1
People have still been going out to bars across the US to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, despite public health experts stressing the importance of social distancing during this coronavirus pandemic.
With no guidance from the US federal government, states and cities have been left to make their own call to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. Some prominent politicians have begun calling for bars and restaurants to temporarily close in order to slow down the spread.

UNCONFIRMED: I've heard rumors that domestic flights are going to be drastically reduced, if not stopped. If you have someone away from home, might want to get them home now.

Re: Shut Downs. What's closing?
I'm home indefinitely.
Kids schools are all cancelled until further notice, with April 20 Being the earliest possible return date.
Everything is in a declared state of emergency.
More places are closing by the day.
I've read or heard lots of interesting rumors of potential area (city, county, state, region) sized quarantines, as well as potential national guard deployment to help get food distributed.
It is looking like a very interesting week.
I keep waiting to hear of more updates and "emergency actions"

Starbucks will be 'to go' only for 2 weeks in US, Canada due to coronavirus

There will also be no Starbucks open in social gathering places such as malls and university campuses.
SEATTLE — Starbucks says it's moving to a to-go model for all its stores in the U.S. and Canada for at least two weeks over concern about the new coronavirus and to increase social distancing.
The Seattle-based coffee giant said Sunday it is closing seating in its cafes and patio areas, but customers can still order at the counter, at drive-thrus or on the Starbucks app.

Re: Shut Downs. What's closing?
They have closed restaurants here except for the drive thru..
I heard they were only allowing one person at a time in the banks today and I heard that Menard's quit taking cash.. I don't know how true those last 2 things are...
I tried to tell people that they need to not panic and quit trying to buy everything on the shelf but who listens to an old man...
I would love to have a picture when the snowflakes pull up to Wal-Mart and a man in uniform says here this is all you can have for a week....

Welcome to Socialism 101.
I don't know so much about Socialism 101 but that's pretty much the way it always been. If the local and state can't take care of it Fema or the Nat Guard steps in...
What we need to watch for is if they take over the whole process growing, packaging, shipping or just the distributing part...
If it plays out and doesn't start to calm down they won't stay long . Some will leave to be with their family..
Just my thoughts ( Maybe I watch to much TV )

That is Socialism 101.
Socialism 102 is why that always, always, happens under socialism.
Shortages are not just a result of Socialism,
but are a necessary part of keeping the socialists in power.
It is a self feeding cycle of evil.

There was a good meme I saw the other day.
It was a guy waking up from a coma in a hospital and the nurse saying, "it's March 2020, there's no toilet paper, the super market shelves are empty...," And the guys replies, "so Bernie won 2016"

Amazon is suspending all shipments other than medical supplies and household staples to its warehouses
https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-amazon-suspends-all-non-essential-shipments-to-warehouses-2020-3
Amazon is blocking all shipments of nonessential products to its warehouses in response to the significant increase in orders it's seeing as the novel coronavirus spreads across the US.
On Tuesday the company told sellers and vendors that it would accept only shipments of "household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products" to its warehouse until April 5 to deal with the high demand of those products amid the coronavirus crisis.
That means sellers who use Amazon's storage and delivery network for a fixed fee, through a program called Fulfillment by Amazon, will no longer be able to ship nonessential products to Amazon. The same restrictions apply to vendors who wholesale their products to Amazon, who then resells them at a markup. ---CONTINUED---

Re: Shut Downs. What's closing?
Schools in my area closed down today.
We are in voluntary quarantine due to Husband's medical issues. While he is in good shape and his numbers are all good, he is diabetic, HBP, and had a stroke 3 years ago.
We informed our neighbors, they are all voluntarily quarantined, too.
One of our children arrived last night. She is quarantined from us. Has her own bathroom/bedroom and is wearing a mask (and sometimes gloves) at all times when she comes out. We are being as careful as possible to interact at a 3-4 foot distance. We expect at least 2 weeks of this before she can come close or interact with us - while we do not feel she has it or will have it, she was in an area that reported community spread.
I am making meals, I serve hers on paper plates with disposable utensils. I set the meal in a designated place, and she gets it when I call the all clear. She then disposes of the trash in a separate container in her room. She will carry it out when the trash collector comes.
Best we can do for now.

Florida governor refuses to shut down beaches amid spread of coronavirus
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/florida-governor-refuses-shut-down-beaches-amid-spread-coronavirus-n1162226
Gov. Ron DeSantis said it's "not uniform throughout the state that you’re seeing massive crowds at beaches," despite videos of gatherings in Tampa Bay.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis refused to issue an order to close the state's beaches, despite fears regarding the spread of coronavirus.
He instead signed an order that would limit parties on the beach to 10 people per group and forced any businesses authorized to sell liquor to reduce occupancy by half, DeSantis told reporters Tuesday. The governor said that local governments can make their own decisions, but that his order would follow the the latest guidance issued by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.
"What we’re going to be doing for the statewide floor for beaches, we’re going to be applying the CDC guidance of no group on a beach more than 10 and you have to have distance apart if you’re going to be out there," DeSantis said. "So that applies statewide." ---CONTINUED---

DeSantis is making a big mistake and it will come back to haunt him. He's putting the almighty dollar ahead of the health and safety of the citizens, both in Florida and the U.S..

I disagree. Since no measures that we can adopt will actually stop the spread, measures must be reasonable, and designed to slow the spread. If beach goers follow (largely) the ten person rule, fresh air and sunshine, coupled with moisture and salt air will help mitigate the spread.DeSantis is making a big mistake and it will come back to haunt him. The dollar is important in any case, as it equates to manpower and materials necessary to fight the enemy, which for now, is the virus.

The shutting down of rest areas, beaches, and public lands is impacting van-dwellers/RV living folks. A lot of them "boondock" in these areas.
Also, some of the long-haul trucker people I know are worried - they need the rest areas open, at least.
