BitCoin and Capitol Gains Tax

I didn't know that bitcoin was taxable. I wonder how many others don't know that, but the IRS knows who has it:

The article is written for what most Bitcoin is used for: market speculation or investment.

I am still wondering (because I haven't really looked it up) how someone like me would deal with the issue. The most I might do is keep a wallet of about $1000 or less, and use it like a debit card on Internet purchases. The gains or losses would amount to a few dollars, if any.

I have thought this might be the year I get into some of that, but I don't know. I have too many irons in the fire, as it is.
