Moving freight
I live close to a 2 lane hwy/state road. I have noticed a lot of small shipping containers being pulled on trailers with 3 sets of duals wheels under them... Usually 3 trucks in a row..
Would anybody care to take a guess as to what they are hauling ??
I am thinking its pretty heavy because of the 3 sets of tires..
Any thoughts ??

Weight distribution, it can have a load of 42,000 lbs, (21 tons). Here in coal country, where I live, the tri-axle dump trucks can haul about 23 tons and when they're M-T, the 3rd axle is pulled up so it's only using 2 axles.

Just like I tell my grandkids, "if you don't know something, you just ask pappy, 'cause pappy knows everything". But, if I don't know, I make something up to tell them. The older grandkids know I'm lying, they just look at me and say, "that's why we love you pappy.

These are being pulled by a Semi truck... I was thinking some type of ammunition... The containers are maybe 20ft long

It's the same theory Dave, used for weight distribution.
Now, if you're close enough or following one of those trucks, there will be signs on the back and sides indicating if there is something dangerous inside, i.e., ammunition (explosive), flammable, corrosive, poisonous, etc.:

Re: Moving freight
Agree with Rick, if dangerous, explosive or corrisive they must be placcarded even if military.
If it's some type of ordinance, would they truck it in this heat ? It's been 90 every day even up here. That said, I tend to think if it's an ordinance it wouldn't be trucked too far. Any military bases close by?
Three semi's in a row tells me some type of safety concern. But no obvious escort?
With as much kwap that we've exported to Ukraine, it could be anything.

Re: Moving freight
I haven't noticed any type of escort. There is a half dz military bases within 200 miles from here.. It got my attention because I have never noticed these before.. The trucks pulling them doesn't have any writing on them I'm guessing private contractor...
I had a retired Lt Col. tell me yrs ago that the amount of weapons and ammunition that crossed the country by private contractor would scare me to death...
I just like to stay ahead of the curve if possible..

Re: Moving freight
Military quantities of ammo would scare any civilian. The units on Ft Hood put about 1 millions rounds a month down their small arms ranges.Dave58 wrote:...

Write down, for a week, exactly when each of these little three truck convoys go by. Most organizations are not able to hide their patterns. See pattern: follow convoy. They can't be that hard to follow. You don't need to follow them to the gate of their destination, just until they are not on a "highway."
Of course, it may not be worth all of that

Ya'all be careful on those night maneuvers!
I used to go on Snipe Hunts at an old abandoned Nike Site long before they made tennis shoes there.
