Lithium-ion batteries may have been triggered to explode.

It seems Israel found a unique method of attacking Hezbollah by causing all their pagers to explode virtually simultaneously. The pagers were in use because Hezbollah was worried Israel could track the cellphones and attack based on that. Well Israel found a way to get the pagers to overheat and explode (they used Lithium Ion batteries.)

Assuming it wasn't a hardware attack and just firmware I guess we all need to be careful of cellphones too since any overheated Lithium Ion battery has the potential to explode - remember the hoverboard fires from a few years back?

Nothing like war to ramp up creativity. Sigh.

Latest info confirms it was Israel who was responsible

Current theories involve a small amount of explosive in the modified pagers and they were set off by shorting the battery (thermal runaway) to then detonate the explosives.

So if true, it's not as scary for cellphones since hackers could just cause batteries to catch fire, but not explode. Not that it matters a lot to the person on the receiving end of a hack/attack....it would still be one hell of a wound.

So looks like the Middle East conflicts are heating up further.

Well this certainly will stir things up. On the one hand, Israel has disrupted Hezbollah's communications....on the other any uninjured members of Hezbollah are going to be out for revenge.

If it wasn't for the chance for collateral damage I'd say it's popcorn time, but I can't see this ending well. Personally I don't see any chance of peace in the Middle East while anyone still lives there.

Well this certainly will stir things up. On the one hand, Israel has disrupted Hezbollah's communications....on the other any uninjured members of Hezbollah are going to be out for revenge.

It is going to make Hezbollah paranoid of any electronic communication devices they carry.

That is a good thing: for Israel.

(And, since Israel is God's Chosen people, I will side with them.)
