How to Store Coffee
http://www.ncausa.org/About-Coffee/How-to-Store-Coffee
Storage is integral to maintaining your coffee's freshness and flavor. It is important to keep it away from excessive air, moisture, heat, and light -- in that order -- in order to preserve its fresh-roast flavor as long as possible. Coffee beans are decorative and beautiful to look at but you will compromise the taste of your coffee if you store your beans in ornamental, glass canisters on your kitchen countertop. Doing so will cause them to become stale and your coffee will quickly lose its fresh flavor. ---CONTINUED---

Long Term Coffee Storage For When TSHTF
http://www.shtfblog.com/long-term-coffee-storage-for-when-tshtf/
I’m a coffee addict. If there’s a recommended daily allowance of caffeine I surely take in five times what they suggest. For starters I’ll drink three cups of coffee first thing in the morning. There’s nothing better than getting up in the morning and having a delicious hot cup of dark roast while my son is eating breakfast. At work I’ll occasionally wait until noon time for my next two or three cups, but usually I have another cup or two at 9:30 am or so. Then I’ll have another cup or two around 2:00 pm. And then another cup or two – or even a CoffeeArmy cappuccino – around 7:00 pm. Just enough to smooth me out and put me to sleep. Crazy eh?

I called a local coffee shop and the conversation went something like this: ---CONTINUED---

Re: Coffee . . . .
I often use chicory in my coffee, half coffee grounds, the other half chicory. You can use ground chicory root or the dried leaves.
I prefer the ground root, but it's easier to let the leaves dry and then crumble them up. You can also use the flower (dried) of the chicory, if you really like bitter coffee, 'cause it will be very bitter.
It does make the coffee stronger.

Re: Coffee . . . .
Chicory root grows wild around here. It's all over the place. And I hate the taste. Of course, I tried it back in the day when I hated coffee. In the last year my tastes have changed and I can now drink coffee, but only if it's sweet and with cream.

I moved your post over here, to the Specific Food Tips forum. I think you'll find some helpful info in this thread.

Well Dave, I can't tell you which one would be better, but I can tell ya that when I was eating C-rations back in '69 which were dated back in the early '50's, that the single back of instant coffee was as hard as a rock, but once it was but in hot water it tasted good. Here are a couple of links for you to check out:
https://thekitchenprofessor.com/blog/how-to-store-ground-coffee-long-term
https://www.beprepared.com/instant-coffee-kit
Beprepared says their coffee (instant) is good for 25 years under proper storage

Re: Coffee . . . .
On another forum back in the stone age, one of the coffee addicts claimed that canned green coffee beans would last years. You only opened the can to roast the beans yourself and use them up before you opened the next can. Here's a link:

Re: Coffee . . . .
This is what happened to me:
Back in the Bird Flu Panic prepping days (it was a REAL threat that thankfully did not happen), I was stocking up HARD. Putting a LOT away. Coffee was one of those things. So, I've had coffee, in buckets, sitting for 6+ years. As the years passed, I began to purchase STRONG Columbia coffee (any brand on sale) and would mix that fresh, strong coffee in with my old stored coffee, when filling my kitchen canister. Seems to work and 'freshens' my old coffee.

Roasting your own coffee is something anyone can do and it helps reduce the cost of coffee on your grocery bill. At the very least, you can afford to drink better quality coffee if you roast your own at home. ---CONTINUED---

How to store gourmet coffee
https://www.coffeeam.com/blogs/blog/how-to-store-gourmet-coffee
There are popular misconceptions on the way fresh roasted coffee should be stored and maintained. The enemies of roasted coffee are moisture, air, light, and heat. Storing your coffee away from them will keep it fresher longer. Therefore, an airtight container stored in a cool, dry, dark place is the best environment for your coffee. ---CONTINUED---

Hey! You love coffee. I get it. You also want to make sure you can brew a cup or two during the zombie apocalypse, and I don’t blame you! With or without electricity, you need that caffeine!Fixing coffee without electricity is surprisingly easy! Electrickettles, grinders, and coffee pots are not the be-all, end-all. All you need is a good source of heat, whether it’s a campfire, gas range, or heck, an old-fashioned potbelly stove. ---CONTINUED---

For all you weed eaters out there, I'm not talking about using a weed eater, I'm talking about eating the weeds.
Or just make coffee with a weed (dandelion coffee), I've never tried it myself, yet:

I mix chicory with regular ground coffee, I like mine strong. Pure chicory may be bitter, at least it was for me.
Remember the coffee in the service, we used to call it black strap, it used to pour like 10 weight oil and strong, burned the hair off your chest.

I have no idea which is best but I have both cans of Folgers and Maxwell house in the cellar. Some are 15 yrs old and still good albeit a little stronger. Starting to worry as only 15 cans left.
