From the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION:

Disposal of dead bodies in emergency conditions

This technical note provides guidance on the disposal of dead bodies in emergency situations. Where there are many fatalities, the collection and disposal of bodies becomes an urgent need. This is not usually due to any health-related risks, which are likely to be negligible, but is important because of the possible social and political impact and trauma. It covers:
-Physical health risks
-Mental health risks
-Recovery of bodies
-Mortuary services
- Identification of bodies
-Body disposal
-Burial
-Cremation
-Action in medical epidemics
-Cholera
-Ebola
-Typhus and plague

Immediately following the onset of a disaster, it is essential for national, regional, or local authorities to concentrate their actions and resources on three basic activities: first, the rescue and treatment of survivors; second, the repair and maintenance of basic services; and, finally, the recovery and management of bodies.   ---CONTINUED---
