It seems appropriate to talk about body armor here.

There are 2 basic types of body armor

Soft body armor and hard body armor.

Soft armor is NIJ level 1-3a which dependent upon the level rating will work against typical pistol and some shotgun loads.

To stop rifle rounds you need to upgrade to hard armor plates. They are either steel, ceramic or some type of composite.  They are NIJ rated 3, 3+ or 4.  Typically these plates are worn inside of a "plate carrier" vest and are designed to stop rifle rounds. The higher the NIJ level the more powerful the rifle round that can be defeated.

Civilians can (in most places, but check your local laws) buy body armor.  There is recent political activity and some pending legislation to ban civilian body armor sales. If this is something that appeals to you I would urge you to look into it.

Maybe you want to look into getting armor for your kids backpack, or another application. There are many "hidden" body armor applications available to use as improvised body armor if you did yourself in an active shooter scenario.

Right now there are plenty of websites where you can buy body armor for very reasonable prices.

In my opinion this is the beginning of civilian body armor sales being banned. It's important to be aware of the political energy behind limiting our ability to protect ourselves and families.

Any body armor is rated to let you know how large a caliber or how fast a velocity of bullet it has been designed to stop when it is fired directly at the armor or panel. Finally got my plates and carrier. I'm quite happy, it's a solid value and insurance policy. Hopefully I don't ever need to kit up but with today's world it's sadly looking more and more likely.

For what it's worth there is more talk about the body armor ban

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/4568/all-actions?r=8&overview=closed&s=1&KWICView=false

It's being re-introduced. Anything level 3 and better would be banned. The exception is previously purchased gear is grandfathered in.

Any thoughts ??

Yes.

In many places (particularly in strongly entrenched Democrat cities in blue states) you are going to increasingly be on your own for protection.

I live in a suburb of buffalo NY.

The now infamous video of 2 cops ruthlessly shoving an elderly man to the ground and cracking his head (or at least that's how the media spun it because it's not accurate) https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/06/06/buffalo-officials-duped-by-professional-antifa-provocateur-arrest-and-charge-two-police-officers-righteous-police-team-stand-together-and-walk-out/

Caused the local police chief to suspend the officers without pay. In response the rest of the "emergency response team) aka riot squad all resign from that extra duty position to show solidarity with the 2 cops who are being railroaded to appease the masses.

Fast forward another day and there were thousands of protesters in the city and 1/2 the police force got the blue flu. Their logic is pretty simple, why show up to do a job if I'm going to be punished as a political scapegoat to appease the masses.

There are calls all around the country to defund police or "control the police" or punish the police

Think about it, what I'd the next logical unintended consequence, the police will stop doing their jobs and citizens are in their own.

I 100% fully expect social unrest to continue.  Watch the video I posted in the civil war 2 thread.

Check this out

Civil unrest will continue to increase and we are going to increasingly be on our own with less law enforcement support.

I'd expect nothing less from ANY city that is run by demonrats.

Just bumping this thread with all the civil unrest, random violence, rioting and calls to eliminate police,

There is also a potential body armor ban looming in the near future.

I doubt the bills will make it into law, but if you are planning to acquire body armor, now is the time to do it. I don't plan to wear it (I am disabled, so my plan is to lie low. In a foxhole, if need be), but here is a link you might want to investigate.

Note that plates and carriers are usually sold separately,
can run into quite a bit of money.
