TAIWAN-H2H Transmission-3rd Country to annoucn H2H, today

HatTip2 Hat Tip to Avian Flu Diary:

Taiwan MOH Announces 1st Locally Acquired Coronavirus Case
https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2020/01/taiwan-moh-announces-1st-locally.html

I hadn't expected to make this a `theme' morning in my blog, but in the past hour Taiwan has announced their first confirmed locally acquired coronavirus case, joining Germany and Japan which made similar announcements this morning.

While these reports are likely to raise additional concerns, they've been fully expected.  There was no reason to suspect that - given the amount of transmission we've seen in China the past week - that the same dynamics wouldn't apply elsewhere.

TAIWAN:

Taiwan Reports 2 Local COVID-19 Cases - 1st Coronavirus Death
https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2020/02/taiwan-reports-2-local-covid-19-cases.html

aiwan's CDC announced two new COVID-19 cases this morning - both apparently locally acquired and while the translated syntax is a bit kludgy, both appear to be members of the same household. While one case (M,50s) is asymptomatic, the other (M,60) fell ill in late January and was hospitalized with pneumonia on February 3rd. ---CONTINUED---

TAIWAN-24th case confusing

Uncertain origin of Taiwan's 24th COVID-19 case perplexes experts

https://focustaiwan.tw/society/202002210015

02/21/2020 10:18 PM

Taipei, Feb. 21 (CNA) Taiwanese medical authorities are increasingly perplexed by the country's 24th novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case -- a woman in her 60s from northern Taiwan, with no recent history of travel abroad and an unknown source of infection.

The woman's case, which was announced Wednesday by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), may stretch back to the early days of an outbreak that has since spread across the globe, sickening over 75,000 people and killing more than 2,200.

According to a timeline provided by the CECC, on Jan. 6 the woman came in contact with her daughter's classmate, who had recently returned from Hangzhou, China...

an unknown source of infection.
It is this the kind of thing I look for in the news. The unknown source is, possibly, a person walking around, not sick enough to stay home or seek medical, but infecting others everywhere they go. If they go to school, a big church, or a croweded movie theater, they could give it to dozens (as happened in Korea). This infection, of unknown source, could be one of those dozens.

Total 40 Cases, This one is from Diamond Princess Ship. She tested NEGATIVE TWICE!!

HatTip2 Hat Tip to FluTrackers:

AIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan confirmed one more COVID-19 case in a 70-year-old woman repatriated from Japan after an ill-fated voyage on the Diamond Princess, bringing the total COVID-19 cases in Taiwan to 40, according to a statement put out by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Sunday (March 1).

CECC Commander Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said that the woman continued to stay on the cruise ship after it arrived in Japan on Feb. 4. She had no symptoms of respiratory illness but tested positive for the new coronavirus on Feb. 15, and so was isolated in a hospital in Japan for treatment. Chen said that after she tested negative for the virus twice, she was released from the hospital and took a flight home.

Chen said that the woman wore a face mask on the flight and no passengers sat within two rows of her. When she arrived in Taiwan, she was escorted to a hospital for isolation and screening. After she tested positive three times, she was today confirmed to still have the virus.

All the medical professionals who came into contact with the woman wore protective gear; therefore, none of them have been required to undergo screening. The woman’s husband tested negative in Japan on Feb. 7, and he is currently being quarantined in a Japanese hotel, Chen added.

HatTip2 Hat Tip to FluTrackers:

AIPEI (Taiwan News) — A young woman became the 41st person in Taiwan to be diagnosed with the Wuhan Coronavirus on Monday (March 2).

Health Minister and Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) Commander Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) on Monday announced that Taiwan's latest confirmed case of novel conoravirus (COVID-19) is the daughter of the 34th case, reported CNA. He said that the CECC now believes this case to be part of a cluster.

Taipei, March 2 (CNA) A member of a Taiwanese tour group traveling to Israel that flew on the same plane as an Israeli citizen infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been hospitalized with a respiratory illness after returning to Taiwan on Monday.

The 11-member tour group flew from Taipei to Istanbul on Feb. 27 and then from Istanbul to Tel Aviv on Turkish Airlines flight TK784 early on the morning of Feb. 28.

The Israeli passenger also took flight TK784 on his return to Israel from Japan, after having presumably recovered from his novel coronavirus infection developed on the ill-fated Diamond Princess cruise ship...

Source of infection of case 42 unclear: Taiwan CECC
https://chinapost.nownews.com/20200303-1091206

TAIPEI (The China Post/ANN) — The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC, 中央流行疫情指揮中心) on Tuesday reported another case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, bringing the total number in Taiwan to 42.

The woman in her 50s is a family member of a patient who was released earlier from the hospital, the CECC said.

She was once in the same hospital ward as case 34, the CECC added.

People wear face masks to protect against the spread of the new coronavirus at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Taiwan sits near Japan, China and South Korea, three countries with some of the world’s worst outbreaks of the deadly coronavirus, but the island itself has just 42 isolated cases.

Chalk it up to extra early, effective preparedness, analysts and policymakers say – so effective that people’s approval of the government unexpectedly soared last month.

Taiwanese health officials saw the virus taking shape in the central Chinese Wuhan in December and began checking passengers who flew in from there. They also cut off flights from much of China, the outbreak origin, before a lot of peers around Asia did.

Now almost every public building in Taipei offers ---CONTINUED---
