HatTip2 Hat Tip to John West's Daily Big Threat Blog:

Coronavirus Reveals Weakness in US Military Supply Chain, Officials Say
https://www.voanews.com/science-health/coronavirus-outbreak/coronavirus-reveals-weakness-us-military-supply-chain-officials

A top U.S. military official and some members of Congress are raising concerns that the United States is too dependent on pharmaceutical products made in China as the spread of the coronavirus highlights supply chain weaknesses. This issue arose as the U.S. government reported the nation’s first drug shortage related to the outbreak.

“We have got a military medical system, and we have the same access to all the drugs that are available in the commercial system, et cetera,” Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said at a congressional hearing last week. “You rightly pointed out that it is a vulnerability to have a country such as China manufacturing high percentages — I don’t know if it is 97%, 98% or 80%, whatever it is, but I do know it is high percentages of the ingredients to [the] American pharmaceutical industry across the country, both military and civilian. ---CONTINUED---

USFK Update:
https://www.usfk.mil/Media/News/Article/2070556/usfk-covid-19-information/

March 6, 2020

A USFK Korean National employee tested positive for COVID-19, making this the seventh USFK-related personnel to be confirmed with the virus.

The employee is currently in isolation at her off-base residence in Asan as directed by KCDC.

KCDC and USFK health professionals are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether anyone else may have been exposed.

USFK remains at risk level “high” peninsula-wide and is implementing all appropriate control measures to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 as a prudent measure to protect the force

SEOUL, South Korea — A South Korean woman who works at Camp Humphreys has tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Friday, in the first confirmed case linked to the U.S. military outside the hard-hit area of Daegu.

The announcement raised to seven the number of people affiliated with U.S. Forces Korea who have been infected, including a soldier and his wife.

However, the other six were connected to bases in the southeastern area of Daegu, which is the epicenter of the outbreak that began in mid-February and has led to more than 6,000 infections nationwide. ---CONTINUED---

HatTip2 Hat Tip to FluTrackers:

DOD Updates Coronavirus Situation, Guidance
The Defense Department continues to issue guidance to commanders and directors to combat the coronavirus outbreak, officials said in Washington today.

Air Force Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Paul Friedrichs, the Joint Staff surgeon, and Robert G. Salesses, deputy assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense integration stressed the department is still laser-focused on three aspects: protecting service members and their families, ensuring crucial DOD missions continue and supporting the whole of government approach to the situation.

DOD is supporting the situation with the ocean liner Grand Princess docking on Oakland, California, with several people aboard having contracted the virus. DOD will provide four bases — Travis Air Force Base, California, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, California and Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia — that will allow the Department of Health and Human Affairs to quarantine the passengers for 14 days, Salesses said. ---CONTINUED---

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2020/03/15/navy-has-1st-coronavirus-case-ship-days-after-family-event-onboard.html

A sailor from the amphibious assault ship Boxer is believed to have tested positive for the new coronavirus disease just nine days after military family members visited the ship at sea.

This marks the first coronavirus, or COVID-19, case for a sailor who was aboard a Navy ship. The person is now quarantined at home, Navy officials said in a Sunday night news release. The sailor's test result for the sometimes-fatal virus is considered presumptive positive, pending confirmation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ---CONTINUED---
