Emergency Water
Emergency Water Storage
http://www.nationalterroralert.com/safewater/
Water Storage is important. Having an ample supply of safe, clean, purified water is a top priority in an emergency.
A normally active person needs to drink at least two quarts of water each day. Hot environments can double that amount. Children, nursing mothers and ill people will need even more. You will also need water for food preparation and hygiene. Store a total of at least one gallon per person, per day. You should store at least a two-week supply of water for each member of your family.
If supplies run low, never ration water. Drink the amount you need today, and try to find more for tomorrow. You can minimize the amount of water your body needs by reducing activity and staying cool.

Some Interesting Facts About Water and The Human Body
The Human Body:
Water is necessary to properly digest food. (Note: If you don't have water, then do NOT eat regardless of how hungry you become.)
Our urine is almost all water and it is how our body flushes and rids itself of toxic wastes.
Water facilitates normal bowel movements which helps prevent constipation.
In one day the average person loses between 2 to 3 quarts of water through their urine, sweat, and normal breathing. If a person doesn't replace that lost water, then dehydration begins to occur.
Pause and reflect on that for a moment. A person loses 2 to 3 quarts of water every day as a result of their normal body functions. Which means if a person doesn't get any fluids for about three days, they will die.
Most people have never thought about the above because they have NEVER been personally confronted with a extended shortage of fresh safe drinking water at any time in their lives.

Drinking Water Quality and Health
http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/nutrition-food-safety-health/drinking-water-quality-and-health-9-307/
Quick Facts…
People can survive days, weeks or months without food, but only about four days without water. The body uses water for digestion, absorption, circulation, transporting nutrients, building tissues, carrying away waste and maintaining body temperature.
The average adult consumes and excretes about 10 cups of water daily. Adults should drink six to eight cups of liquids per day. Although most of this liquid should come from beverages, food supplies some water. Our bodies make water as a by-product in the breakdown of fats, sugars and
proteins to energy.
Water is always two parts hydrogen to one part oxygen. Beyond that, its composition depends on where it comes from, how it is processed and handled. Water can be hard or soft, natural or modified, bottled or tap, carbonated or still. ---CONTINUED at LINK---

Quick Facts…
Water is our most essential nutrient. Water contains different amounts of dissolved inorganic and organic compounds. The Environmental Protection Agency regulates public water systems under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The Colorado Department of Health regulates bottled or vended water if the water does not leave Colorado. The Food and Drug Administration regulates if the water is involved in interstate commerce.

Re: Water-General Info
While hydration is critical, be wary of drinking only water to replace fluid lost due to heavy exercise. It's possible to mess up your electrolyte balance by drinking just water instead of mixing it up with sport drinks or rehydration solutions. Folks doing unaccustomed exercise during and after an event are susceptible to this problem.
Check out this article on water intoxication:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication
Having salt tablets on hand to take with water is probably a good idea, although it's easy enough to make oral rehydration solution to keep yourself balanced. I posted the recipe I use in the Prep Tip of the day thread: https://emergencyhomeprep.forumotion.com/t107-prep-tip-of-the-day#431

Water Storage For The Home And The Homestead

When it comes to storing water for emergencies or a SHTF situation, nobody can be certain of the reliability or safety of their water supply. While humans can go a long time with little or no food, the same cannot be said for water, and that is why an emergency store of water is one of the most important supplies you can have on hand. ---CONTINUED---

Re: Water-General Info
Seems the people living out west will soon be paying a premium price for water, but only if they can get water.
A massive water shortage is expected do to low snow fall over the years. The Colorado river is shrinking. This doesn't only affect the U.S., but also Mexico.
A 1st water shortage declaration is expected to be declared by the Fed's in the future:

Water in the west is at it lowest in 1,200 years, will it become unlivable. Lake Meade, which is fed by the Colorado River is only 36% full. Don't look good for the western home front:

It amazes me that so many priorities are so far off base.... They will cut off farmers that can't feed their live stock but I am sure their are thousands of swimming pools that have been filled and lawns watered all over the west coast...
Its hard to feel sorry for people that seem willing to cut off their nose just to spite their face.....

Re: Water-General Info
Scary that people don't think about this at all.
Having our own access to water was what was contingent for us buying property. We have a well, a creek, a larger creek that our creek drains into in the woods behind our house, and a lake a mile away.
Still, we're not taking it for granted. We harvest rainwater from our gutters to a storage system to water our garden, and I keep gallons and bottles of water on hand for emergencies.
A bug out property is useless without water.
I guess because we look friendly, people who are considering buying property in our area sometimes stop to chat with us. Husband and I always, always, always tell them to get access to water/drill a well before they put in septic, electric, or build. You'd be surprised, or maybe not, at how many people look at us as if we're crazy.
They want the cabin in the woods...and don't even consider what it will take to live there.
