Should there be a large scale emergency situation, such as a pandemic, money may not be easily accessible for an extended period of time. You may need money (cash) to make store purchases (if one is open around you) or to barter for items. It would be wise to keep cash on hand in a safe and secure place at home. Keep your emergency cash in small bills. If you can't get change, you would probably prefer to not get change for a ONE or a FIVE vs a Twenty dollar bill!

Arrow-Right  Within two to three days

    * Food shortages will escalate, especially in the face of hoarding and consumer panic. * Supplies of essentials, such as bottled water, powdered milk, and canned meat,at major retailers will disappear. * ATMs will run out of cash and banks will be unable to process transactions. * Service stations will completely run out of fuel for autos and trucks. * Garbage will start piling up in urban and suburban areas. * Container ships will sit idle in ports and rail transport will be disrupted, eventually coming to a standstill.

We do keep cash on hand, some is kept in a safe, some in the gun safe, some in each vehicle, some in the barn, some in gallon zip lock bags then in pint jars (buried), some on our person, we got cash stashed everywhere. Yes, the kids know where it is, just in case me and the wife don't make it.

We also keep cash on hand. WE have an emergency fund and a backup emergency fund because the power has gone out around our area for days in the winter, and cash was the only thing the local stores would take.
