The government is to stop giving daily updates on where cases of coronavirus have been found in the UK, officials have said.

A Department of Health said the decision had been taken due to the "number of new cases".

Instead, citizens will have to wait until the end of the week to find out the location of new infections.

Until this point, the government has offered updates each afternoon on the number and whereabouts of new cases. ---CONTINUED---

There are four new cases of coronavirus in Greater Manchester, it has been confirmed.

One person has tested positive for the virus in Oldham and three people in Trafford.

All four became infected after travelling to Italy.

It brings the total number of confirmed cases in Greater Manchester to nine...

Three cases of coronavirus have this afternoon been confirmed in Trafford – in addition to the Wythenshawe Hospital patient who tested positive earlier today.

The three latest cases had all travelled to northern Italy, where COVID-19 is more widespread.

There’s no more information about exactly where in Trafford the individuals are located..

As of 4 March, a total of 16,659 people have been tested in the UK, of which 16,574 were confirmed negative. 85 were confirmed as positive.

The Department of Health and Social Care will be publishing updated data on this page every day at 2pm until further notice. This data is accurate as of 9am on the day of publication.

If more cases are confirmed in the UK, it will be announced by the Chief Medical Officer of the affected country.

(SNIP) ... What is clear, is that as knowledge grows it has become evident that this has the potential to be one of the most fatal epidemics to have hit the world for a century, and it is rapidly increasing in prevalence in the UK.

I work as a doctor in an intensive care unit (ICU). It is a speciality (like anaesthesia its parent speciality) which most of the public have little understanding of unless they have required our services. What is in no doubt is that ICU sits at the centre of all that is necessary for keeping alive what may be a very large number of patients who will develop severe Covid-19. ---CONTINUED---

There are now 90 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK after three more cases were confirmed in Scotland overnight.

It comes after Wednesday saw the biggest day-on-day increase in coronavirus cases.

Thirty-two more cases of coronavirus were confirmed by the Department of Health at around 2pm on Wednesday - with two more in Northern Ireland later on in the day.

HSBC today evacuated part of its UK headquarters after a worker tested positive for coronavirus in the first known case at the heart of London's financial district.

Staff who came into contact with the analyst were told to work from home as the company's research department underwent an urgent deep clean.

The office is in the centre of Canary Wharf, a major financial centre that hosts many investment banks, including Citi, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and Barclays.
