SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seven New York residents have been tested for a new flu from China and lab results show three of them do not have the pneumonia-like virus.

State officials say they are awaiting test results for the other four individuals who remain in isolation. The state did not identify the individuals or say where in the state they live.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Health officials in New York say three patients met the criteria to be tested for coronavirus. They had recently been to China and showed symptoms: a fever, cough, shortness of breath.

Officials tried assuaging the public on Sunday, saying there is absolutely no reason to be fearful. Of the 14 suspected New York cases of coronavirus sent to the Centers for Disease Control for testing, 11 have come back negative.

The 12th, 13th and 14th are all pending. Health officials said results should be known for all three within 36-48 hours. The patient in the initial case has been reported in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital . In the second case, which was announced earlier Sunday night, officials said the patient is a 60-year-old man who is in stable condition at Flushing Hospital Medical Center.

Mayor Bill de Blasio later confirmed the third case. CBS2 has learned that patient is at New York-Presbyterian Queens.

NEW YORK (AP) — A health care worker who had recently traveled to Iran was confirmed as the first person in New York to test positive for the new coronavirus disease that has sickened people across the globe, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.

The 39-year-old Manhattan woman's background in health care allowed her to take the appropriate precautions and seek testing.

New York City homeless service agencies have begun issuing basic guidance about the coronavirus to nonprofit providers, but with uncertainty and false reports spreading far faster than the actual illness, accurate information often fails to reach the New Yorkers who actually live in shelters.

Homeless New Yorkers, their advocates and shelter staff say the dissemination of information varies depending on the individual provider, and many shelters have failed to adequately address residents’ practical concerns.

“Everybody’s worried. It’s all over the news, but they’re not saying anything,” said Sean Burt, of the Jamaica family shelter where lives with his son.

Picture the Homeless community organizer Nikita Price said he has encountered misplaced fears, wacky home remedies and flat out incorrect information while talking about the coronavirus, known as COVID-19, with homeless New Yorkers. As a resident of western NY I can say Everything has changed in the matter of a week.

Pretty much any "leisure" establishment is closed, schools closed indefinitely, government offices restricting access, encouraging all possible employees to work remotely from home, supply chain shortages at grocery stores etc..


I'm sure when this mornings update comes out NY will be over 1000 cases.  Most of them downstate near NYC.

My county had 3 confirmed cases on Sunday, 7 confirmed cases on Monday and I'm sure more today.
