1 yr ago Keystone Pipeline was killed with a pen. Fastforward, we agree to buy 575,000 barrels of oil from.......Russia! Yep, Russia.
Now as oil reaches $100, we are giving Putin the cash he needs to buy or mfg arms.
I'm thinking Putin just double crossed his pals the Bidens.

Think of this. Putin is using the money that the U.S. and the E.U. pay him for gas and oil to build his military to invade the Ukraine, we then send our military equipment and aid to the Ukraine to fight the Russians.
Seems to me our tax dollars are fighting each other, now that tells me that we are the stupid ones.

They are 6 hours ahead of me, and the war kicked off at (I think) 2AM, Kyev time. As I write this, 33h 46min has passed, and there is fighting in the Kyev area, and, now, I expect it to fall before the 48 hour mark.
There are several things we could have done to prevent this, but that subject is no longer relevant.
The war has begun.
Now, what do we, as preppers do?
Same things we always did.
With a little more intensity, perhaps?

There are massive protest in Russia
Threats of letting ISS fall onto the USA or England
A group called Anonymous has declared a cyber war on Russia
China has stepped up and agreed to buy the wheat that we were supposed to buy from Russia
Rumors of radioactive dust drifting from Chernobyl
The list goes on and on
We as preppers, need to start thinking about Heat ,Water, Lights and Medical.. If he thinks we got in his way I think he will hit our Infrastructure and things will become difficult after that

We as preppers should already be ready for anything. I know some are more prepared then others because of somebody having more money then others or somebody living on a farm and having farm animals, etc.. But, to the extent possible, everybody on this forum should be ready to the best of their abilities.
There was a saying on the old APN forum that went like this - Your unpreparedness does not constitute an emergency for me.

There are massive protest in Russia true
Threats of letting ISS fall onto the USA or England partly true, they can let it crash, but they can't determine where it will fall
A group called Anonymous has declared a cyber war on Russia Anonymous is an outlaw hacker group, answers to no one. Let us just say, Russia will be the victim of the month
China has stepped up and agreed to buy the wheat that we were supposed to buy from Russia mostly true
Rumors of radioactive dust drifting from Chernobyl true, but I don't know how far it will drift. Anything still in Chernobyl area has to be pretty heavy, so the wind shouldn't take it very far. What hitches a ride in a soldier's uniform, OTOH ...

I did read Anonymous hacked RT, Russian Television but they appeared to be operational late last night.
There were videos of Russians gathering to protest in St. Petersburg last night. This is unheard of.

I wonder if that can be independently confirmed.
Russia is a master of disinformation campaigns.
Almost as good as Hillary and the Obamacrats.
EDIT TO ADD: by independent, I meant a second source, one that is unrelated to this one. I didn't mean that this source was dependent on nato, the government, etc. Nothing against them, just that an operative could have fed them something.
KGB was good a feeding a news agency something, but usually couldn't manage to feed the same info to multiple channels.

Well, they lasted longer than I thought they would.
As far as Nato's involvement, though, we are observing mission creep as well as movement of the Overton Window.
We are getting closer, by the hour, to a point were Putin may decide to take action against Nato members.

Their (Russian) advanced has bogged down specifically because of the American supplied anti armor Javelin missiles are wrecking Russian columns.
And we are in the process of supplying another batch to Ukraine. At what point does Putin get agitated enough that his advance has stalled, they are not reaching objectives on their timeline and taking heavier than forecasted losses. All at the hands of stubborn Ukrainian resistance and Americana javelin missiles.
Does Putin try to pre-emptively attack the next NATO convoy that goes to the Poland/Ukraine border to resupply Ukraine?
NATO is walking a very fineine of stopping just short of actually engaging Russian forces. They are directly and openly helping Ukraine defend itself and kill Russians.

I am more than ok with that.
There are some crazy videos on social media showing some of the fighting. Russia is taking far greater losses than they anticipated.
There is full scale army to army fighting.
I'll be shocked if Russia doesn't have over 5000 casualties right now.
There are reports of over 100 tanks destroyed, another 100+ infantry fighting vehicles, multiple infantry units, 10+ helicopters, 10+ jets, including potentially 2 IL76 transports full of paratroopers.
I'm sure many platoons and squads are suffering very heavy losses.
This war isn't a super power vs a bunch of 3rd rate terrorists. It's a peer vs near peer. It's going to be a slugfest

This is a big deal.
Ironically my pessimistic tin foil wrapped head is now pondering that Russia certainly knew this was possible to occur and is already planning the framework to begin some sort of alternate system with china and their allies. This very action may some time in the future lead a a diminished status for the USD as the global reserve currency. If the USD is no longer the reserve currency then in an instant our debt will become a bomb. It will have very immediate and dire consequences

Russia is essentially on their version of DEFCON 2
IIRC, "2" would begin and automatic countdown to launch,
which would have to be reset, periodically, to prevent reaching zero.
Seems someone agrees with our assesment:
https://defconwarningsystem.com/2022/02/27/defcon-warning-system-update-2-27-22/
This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 3:30 P.M. UTC, Sunday, February 27th, 2022. Condition code is Yellow. DEFCON 3.
There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.
Russia has raised the alert level of its nuclear forces, citing aggressive statements by NATO and the imposed sanctions as the reason for the higher posture.
Russia’s president Putin has displayed an unusual aggressiveness as of late. It is not entirely impossible that he will react outside the realm of reasonableness. Russia feels the West is weak and will capitulate if enough force is used. Additionally, Russia fears the possibility of invasion, and this fear is leading to paranoia. This is why Russia is taking such postures.
While there is no reasonable fear of further escalation, Russia is not behaving reasonably. We therefore judge the prospect of nuclear action as “possible”.
NATO has issued more sanctions on Russia in retaliation for invasion of Ukraine and sends more reinforcements to NATO allies. Additionally, NATO has officially activated its High Readiness Task Force. Additionally, the United States has ended arms control talks with Russia.
The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack. If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. Your readings will vary. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.

I may have been mistaken.
I was always under the impression that there is no countdown it's just a series of events that lead to a release/launch order being given.
With the various DEFCON levels each increasing in severity of readiness in defensive posture, cutting through the red tape so to speak, to allow the launch order to be given and carried out more quickly.
Counting down from 5 to 1.
DEFCON 5, all smiles and rainbows of peace and love
DEFCON 4, elevated tensions and concerns in the world, increase force protection measures
DEFCON 3, likely in an active war, conflict or some hostilities. Serious threats. Crews are on alert, assets are staged and deployed or positioned. Weapons are probably loaded in bombers, boomer subs are staged
DEFCON 2 nuclear war is imminent or likely, nukes are armed in planes crews on standby. Highest level of readiness literally "all signs are green" everything is ready and waiting for a launch order
DEFCON 1 launch order is given, missiles in the air, bombers, subs, etc
When I see Russia saying they are placing their nuclear forces ready on alert and they're out deploying their road Mobile ICBMs to me that is comparable to our DEFCON 2. they're already at war and they have escalated to the next level.
Just my .02 cents how I see it

Russian doctrine is not the same as NATO. everything I've read is Russia sees tactical battlefield nukes as an option if they are losing a conventional battle.
A small 50-100kt nuke or 2 (especially if it's an airburst) wouldn't turn Ukraine into any more of a wasteland than Chernobyl did
I personally think it's more of a message to NATO that Putin is not messing around. I think Putin sees Russia as being in an existential crisis for the literal survival of the country in the next 50 years and this is his opportunity to save it now or never. I think the nuclear warning is for NATO more likely than it is Ukraine.

When I see Russia saying they are placing their nuclear forces ready on alert and they're out deploying their road Mobile ICBMs to me that is comparable to our DEFCON 2. they're already at war and they have escalated to the next level.
Just my .02 cents how I see it
Sure and that makes sense. Technology may have changed that role or perhaps not.
I can guarantee there is an E4b night watch and e6 mercury airborne 24/7 right now as a flying nuclear war command centers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_E-4
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_E-6_Mercury
The e6 is literally the most powerful plane in the world. It can give nuclear launch orders

Re: Russian Concerns
I am really really rooting for a swift and immediate peace agreement. I want hostilities to end ASAP before the world gets sucked into ww3. A fast peace agreement might be the only way to stop it and get back to somewhat normal.
Here is why I think it's critical this conflict gets ended. Now. The west and Russia are setting up for direct conflict and nothing good will come out of that. Let that sink in and ponder how serious that is.
If anyone isn't paying attention or learned from history, the west is fighting Russia via proxy with openly supplied weapons and has essentially declared economic war on Russia.Hell even in Afghanistan we secretly gave some stingers for plausible deniability. We didn't openly brag about it. What we are giving to Ukraine is exponentially more deadly.
(For comparison sake this is somewhat equivalent to either china or Russia directly and openly arming Iraq in 2002 to kill US troops and then trying to economically ruin us at the same time) how would we have felt?
These actions are real and tangible. They are going to harm Russia and Russian citizens. Regardless of your opinion on this war or who is right or wrong, there may be a series of retaliatory actions that happen next that affect us.
Regardless if you are pro Russia, pro Ukraine or still confused as hell. It doesn't make a difference. Because there is no chance Russia just sits idly by and bends over. Not happening. So Russia is going to do something. This is going to escalate. It's very likely more countries get dragged in.
If all the reports are accurate that Putin genuinely in his heart believes that this is an existential crisis to the survival of Russia he's already in his mind committed to going all in. Right or wrong it doesn't matter. If that's his true feelings then it is what it is. We can ignore reality but we can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality. The west and Russia might have very different ideas about what happens next and just how serious this may get.
Has anyone else noticed a steady increase in western media reporting on Putin being "unhinged" or "losing it"?
will Russia feel justified in launching cyber attacks on us? It's roughly equivalent to what we are doing directly to them. What happens next?

China and Russia ran a proxy war in Vietnam, didn't end well. I took many Chinese and Russian weapons (AK's/SKS's), ammo, grenades, RPG's etc. off dead North Vietnamese and Viet Cong.

Personally I am looking at how all of this fits into what I know of prophesy, while simultaneously considering what to prep next.
I think the initial phases of cyber attacks are already underway. Hopefully, we can absorb the damage, and continue on. The scarier things are Chemical, Biological, or Nuclear. He as a virtual buffet of things he can do, many of which will have consequences far beyond the theater of operations....will Russia feel justified in launching cyber attacks on us? Already, we can assume energy and food costs will go up another 30%, this year and may, over the long haul (five years), double.
God is still in charge.
Our task is not changed.
Keep calm and prep on.

Ukraine asks Musk for Starlink terminals as Russian invasion disrupts broadband
Musk replied, "Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route."
lots of detail in the article, but I especially liked this bit:
Starlink was previously "slated to hit Ukraine in 2023," according to a Fortune report. Fortune wrote that "the relay towers that Starlink uses to provide Ukraine with Internet coverage are likely stationed in neighboring countries, where Russian troops can't target them." The closest Starlink ground terminal is reportedly in Wola Krobowska in Poland.

I can't think of a better way to turn a populace against Russia then this plan. Unless he's planning on killing everyone and moving his own folks into the empty land, but even then a LOT of folks got out of Ukraine and will be out for blood.
Only thing I can think is that he's been in his echo chamber too long and has lost touch with what's happening in the rest of the world these days.
Is it bad that at this point I hope there is a coup in Russia to solve the problem for everyone?

Not sure this will work... I got it from twitter Russia is shelling a nuclear power plant in the Ukraine. They have managed to cause a fire

While, for now, Chernobyl Part 2 has been avoided, the plant is now in the hands of Russian force. I don't think they inspire confidence, in the running of a nuclear power plant.Drinkthekoolaid wrote:

One our our intel community has opined that Putin may, if things get bad for him, choose to use a "low yield" tactical nuke in Ukraine, as a demonstration of his willingness to seriously increase the body count. In theory, if he exploded a 5kt nuke more than 1000 feet off the ground, the residual radiation and fall out would be minimal, but the blast and heat would destroy everything for about 400 yards radius (just over 40 city blocks, total).
We know from past conflicts, Putin (for that matter, anyone in the Russian politburo) has no problem with driving the body count in Ukraine to something on the order of 100,000 Russian soldiers and 1million Ukrainians.
These are pessimistic ideas, or perhaps cynical, but we (preppers) should be preparing for them.
I still don't worry too much about that. I am more concerned that he might take direct action against the U.S. and Europe, in retaliation for interfering with his invasion of a non-nato country.

I also believe him when he said that the west would pay a sever price for interfering with his invasion of Ukraine.
If his words hold true, it just might be lights out for many in the west and the far west.
BE prepared for the worse, that is yet to come.

I think it means the sanctions are actually putting pressure on him.
But I don't think it'll stop him. He seems like he's at the end of his rope and he'd rather be the ruler of a rubble pile than losing power over others.
This will not end well (not that it's been puppies and chocolates so far...)
